Notice of Adoption of Bond Resolution: Fire Truck Purchase
The Village of Canastota Board of Trustees has approved the purchase of a new fire truck to replace two aging vehicles which have come to the end of their useful lives. The existing trucks, a 1998 American LaFrance pumper and a 2008 American LaFrance rescue, were manufactured by a company which no longer exists and for which obtaining replacement parts has become increasingly difficult. The Canastota Fire Department has requested, and the village board has approved, the purchase of a single Spartan Motors rescue/pumper to replace both existing vehicles at a total cost of approximately $1,350,000.
In order to purchase the new truck, the village board has approved a resolution to bond for up to $950,000 over the course of 20 years. Barring delays, the new truck is expected to be delivered in October of 2026. The two American LaFrance vehicles will be sold after the new truck arrives and is put into service.
