Canastota Police remind residents of E-bike laws
CANASTOTA, NY – The Canastota Police Department would like to remind residents of the laws regarding the operation of electric bicycles and similar vehicles in New York State. There have been several instances recently of riders being injured because of the unsafe operation of E-bikes, including excessive speed, riding without a helmet, or riding on sidewalks.
The Village of Canastota follows state law when it comes to the use of electric bicycles, scooters, and other small two-wheeled vehicles. The Village does not currently have any additional local ordinances governing the operation of E-bikes or other small electric-powered vehicles. Please see the below guides for information on NYS laws governing E-bikes.
As a reminder, here are the villages ordinances regarding the operation of traditional pedal-powered bikes: https://ecode360.com/9456917#9456917
